We had a few days to ourselves before we flew to the US. Here are some scenes from one of the walks I took near the marina.

I participated in the Earth Day march in St. Paul, MN while we were in the US. There was a pretty good crowd at the capital.

Michael had a buoy catcher sent to our home in MN. I am excited to use it!

We decided to take a road trip in Martinique. Our first day was sort of a bust but we kind of salvaged it.
We’d planned to hike the Gorges de las Falaise, but it was closed. Presumably due to rain. We’d tried previously in March but the website said it was open until 4:00 p.m. and it actually closed at 2:00 p.m. and it was too late for us to get there in time. I guess that one just won’t happen.
So we decided to drive “up north” instead. We went to Grand’Rivière. I’d seen pictures of it and it seemed nice, so we put it on our itinerary.
It is a town with a nice little beach. We walked both ways from the parking lot to enjoy the scenery.

There were LOTS of little crabs scurrying along the sand. They usually went into their homes when we got too close.
This is a closeup of one of them. They were maybe about 2.5 inches from side-to-side.

I think the water and sand made a work of art:

We stopped by a little church on the way to a restaurant to have some lunch.

It was an interesting little restaurant. And popular! Although, it might have been the only one that was open. In any event, it was raining off and on so they were only using their “indoor” (just a tent) seating area. We weren’t sure if there would be a table for us because the line was rather long. And we watched as tables were taken.
But, what we found out is that the line moves so slowly that by the time we ordered, several tables had emptied by the folks who were eating while we stood in line.
The food was okay. I had crudité with some deep fried something or others. Michael had smoked chicken with sides of something or others, perhaps some were potatoes.

Views near the restaurant:

I am always interested in the types of toilets we find in other countries. Sometimes it takes me a second to figure out how to flush it. This one was one of those:

It was time to drive to our hotel. I had time to walk into Saint-Pierre before the sun set. We’d been there before with Caroline and Jim, but it was nice to visit it again. (Plus, we needed to wait almost an hour to check in and I was antsy to walk!)

I saw some fun artwork on the walk to and from town. I don’t know what any of it means.

Looking at the mooring field where we kept Seahike for one night on our previous visit.

The hotel we stayed at had an infinity pool. And boy did it feel great!!!

Views from the pool.

Captain Michael in the pool.

The sunset from our room.

I will share my hike to the top of Mount Pelée in the next post.
